“STEALTH” Prologue


Cold darkness stretched over the hallways. The walls spread from corner to corner. Like a labyrinth with no end. Every step I took I shuddered with cold. I stalked through the hallways carrying 16.7 lbs. of gears strapped on my back. My gear included weapons, gadgets, rations, and some other rubbish. My mission seemed simple, rescue the captured squad of mercenaries called the “Geckos”. But, it was more complex than it sounded. They have been cooped up in Russia since 2057, and Russia hasn’t allowed any immigrants to enter their borders, and the penalty is death. You are probably asking why, the reason why is because we have been at war with them for over 15 years. Seven months ago, the Geckos had snuck into Russia, and haven’t responded since. But the U.S. Military have tracked them here.

Hallway after hallway, darkness after darkness, step after step. I moved with a strange eerie silence. A ringing sensation hit my ear drums, causing me to flinch. I rounded a corner then another, then a waft of cold air hit me and I noticed an air shaft. I unscrewed the metal plate and crawled inside. Trying to stay as silent as I could, I crawled on my belly, the small space would have made a normal person claustrophobic but I am not a normal person. At one point I had hit my head and sent a silent curse through the echoing air shafts. Moments later I could hear some faint muttering. I crawled closer to the point that I could hear every word. Then I found a small plate opening up in 3 medium sized cracks.

I peered through the tiny gaps and was greeted by the smell of smoke, which burned my eyes. In the three gaps I could see 8 people, 5 were strapped in chairs, and the other three were standing. One of them was wearing a trench coat and had a deep scar running over his right eye. The other 2 looked like normal Russian Soldiers, wearing large camoflauge vests with gas masks, both looked the same and they were both smoking. The one with the scar was holding a silenced M9 pistol; the two soldiers were holding sub machine called AK-74 Uzis.

“What were you doing on our land?” asked the guy with the scar. No answer.

“Sabotage, I bet,” muttered one of the soldiers.

“Filthy rats,” said the other. All three had heavy foreign accents.

“I see….”said the one with the scar. He pulled out something from his trench coat
pocket, and I recognized it instantly, a telephone.

“When do you want us to kill them?” a muffled answer came out from the speaker, he closed the phone.

“Ten minutes,” he muttered to the soldiers, he glanced at the squad of tied up mercenaries. Suddenly alarmed, I checked my time, 8 minutes 48 seconds and counting. I have to save them now…..
