What anime made you into an Otaku?!
The #1 anime question that should be asked...though it hasn't been asked yet! Which is kinda surprising.

Throughout my time of being an Otaku, I have seen and heard of many fascinating animes that have interested many people, which shaped the Otaku community into what it is today. I want to see an anime that kept you watching, not just kept you watching, but what made you want to keep watching. Call it your anime virginity that was taken. What anime took your anime virginity?!

Yu-Gi-Oh is the anime that began my Otaku career or took my anime virginity. From what I remember I used to wake up extremely early, maybe 7:00am during Saturday just to see Yu-Gi-Oh. It dosen't seem extremely early, however I bet on Friday you didn't stay up till 3:00am. I was amazed as the adventures continue of Yigi Muto and his friends as they duel through Battle City and more! Battle City is the one that comes to mind the most as it is my favorite season of course. Yu-Gi-Oh was fresh at the time, therefore I ordinarily had to get my hands on an actual duel monsters deck. Not those beginner decks; I made my own, therefore making me feel great that I won using my own deck other than using a deck that was made by people other than me. It was such an amazing mix deck that I hold dear to me, even today.

It was made with sixty booster packs.Which had fifteen spells, fifteen traps, and twenty monsters. The rules state that the decks had to be between forty to sixty, so I chose fifty cards. I say it's the best deck that I made, because I won three tournaments with it, but it's very complex to use.

Thank You for reading my First Discussion!:E2Sky:

For me it was probably Inuyasha. I started buying the DVDs (which were crazy expensive!) to be able to see all the episodes which actually started my Anime collection. After I finished off that show I started to really look around to find out what other shows were out there. Crunchyroll and several other free streaming sites started to come about right at the same time so I got instantly exposed to "The world of Anime".

But honestly it was my exposure to the Steam Anime communities that really got me interested in knowing and seeing more Japanesy stuff. I'm still into a lot of different things but Anime has definetely become one of my main focusses for enjoyment.

Btw, check out Inuyasha if you have not heard of it. It's a longer running show but the characters are all likable and it fits the all ages category.

The answer to that for me is Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball, soon after I've started to see more animes that came on during those Toonami days like Yu-Yu Hakoshou, Tenchi Muyo and many more to name! Those times made me form into the otaku that I am today, I'm grateful of Toonami.
#thankyouToonami

fortunitely streaming and anime are more mainstream, i remember a time i could only buy DVD's that were outrageously expensive for like 6 episodes at a time... so much has changed since then :ah3heart:

My first anime was HenNeko but the one that made me into an otaku was Gintama.

I've been watching for a long time, from the original Gundam to Dragon Ball without any letters, enough so that I watched Akira when it came out at the theater and saw the Ghibli films starting from Valley of the Wind.

I think I didn't really get into it until the mid to late 90s with shows like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun and the movies like Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke.

I enjoyed it before that, but those were the ones that got me really hooked.

The best animes that made me into an otaku were the positive ones :), America has enough negativity, Anime can be like drugs, pure euphoria ~. That being said, the first one I stepped into was either Fushigi Yugi or Evangelion. Watching Evagaleion around age 14 , well that was fucked XD

I wonder which anime did it :D As kid i watched Sailor moon, Dragon ball, Slayers, Soul Hunter and Saint Seiya in tv. Years later when i got pc at some point started to download anime. One of first was Ah! My Goddess (idea came from seeing manga in my cousin house but my favourite till today is still other one: Cardcaptor Sakura :shigure2:

mine was robotech when i was 5 my dad used to watch Saturday morning cartoons with me and in 1985 he watched the first season of robotech with me. he told me about how the show was from japan. then he saw how much i was enthralled about the idea of the show was so different then normal cartoons. then he bought me a few manga over then next few years and games. he made me the otaku i am now today, he would buy me vhs tapes of fan subs and imported games for Christmas and birthdays and he even got me doujins from shops and catalogs.

I honestly not sure what to say so i'm proberbly gonna be a lil embarresed about this but here goes; i think it started in my teens where me and my big brother would watch Dragon Ball Z, i litrally didn't know what was going on but it looked interesting, at the time there was Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura but i tried staying away from them because i was young and in typical manner thought they were aimed for girls, what made me take notice that it was anime was a game on the PS2 called Dragon Quest 8. From there i started looking for more anime styled games, it died down slowly for me as i reached 18/19 and fell into mmo's, but one of the guilds i was in told me to check out Infinite Stratos if i needed something to watch if i was bored, i checked it out out of boredom and i think it kinda clicked in me that i liked anime, in the end what got me into looking into more anime related stuff was Angel Beats, it was the first anime that somehow made me cry. So theres my anime lifestyle summed up nicely... :lunatica:
