The character is meant to represent people who do not think for themselves or are incapable of having an internal monologue, bearing many similarities to the terms "basic" and "normie".

Meaning of the word "NPC"

An NPC is seemingly a human that is unable to think objectively. This is a play on video games "non-player character" mixed with a play on The Simulation Hypothesis.

The world exists in a simulated reality where some humans take on the role of NPCs, spouting "opinions" they are programmed to spout and repeating in a cult-like manner.
