What I don't understand is why they chose rape of all things. There's a ton of games that are centred around killing, gore and hyperviolence but sexual violence is a different form of awful. I can't think of much of a defence beyond "art should not be restricted, freedom of speech, all things are permissible" etc etc.
Fundamentally, if the underlying game isn't good everything else is a bit pointless. Even in a situation in which there is a solid game that provides all of these things in context, I find it hard to think how rape could be so central to the title that it wouldn't be improved by its removal.
yep https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusion_(company)
Japanese game R***Lay still went viral amid outrage.
Is it not portrayed in other media? https://letterboxd.com/queencockatiel/list/movies-with-sexual-assault-rape-in-them/
The Walking Dead TV series had a couple of controversial episodes around sexual assault.
I think in a post-apocalyptic world, its a threat, no law and order. Bad men do bad things. Maybe women too. Why would anyone want to still play a game as Japanese or Nazi in a WWII game or Middle Eastern or Terrorist in game, or domestic terrorist for that matter, someone who shoots and kills cops, Payday, or kicks / beats the crap out of innocents citizens, GTA, Saints Row, an arsonist, giving golden showers POSTAL 2? But sexual assaulter, to soon.
So wait if it released as Date R*** House it would have been banned?
Is it okay that there is all this other sexual exploitation in games,

just don't mention, the children, trafficking, prostitution or r***? Right?
Hey lets get'em banned guys, after all its mostly female game characters being sexually assaulted. Wtf would anyone want entertainment or games like that too amid all the other crap Steam sells? https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/groups/studio-fow Go figure.
Screw Steam (The Jimquisition) Good video Jim!
Plenty of Steam to screw Jim. With or without consent or lube
I think you miss understand my point. Of course, it exists in other media and of course a developer can depict it if they choose. My question is why anyone would CHOOSE to make it the focus of their work.
Back to your examples, it was indeed in the walking dead and it was a shocking scene. It also illustrated the horrifying things that happen in a broken world with no laws and where morality and survival are at times in conflict.
By contrast, can you point to any popular films or shows in which a rapist has been the major protagonist and you follow their activity?
Sexual violence is shocking in a way other forms currently aren't and maybe Overton window will shift on this one day too. But context matters and I think it'll take an extremely talented narrative and direction to make such a title anything other than tone deaf or shocking for shocks sake.
that's all I was trying to express anyway.
Pretty simple: Those weren’t sold on having rape. This was, and looks like another low-effort asset flip, to boot.
But what made GoT so popular is making rape and murder videos more accessible to the casual audience.
That is the only reason it was so successful. The show pretty much sucked.
Rape and murder videos existed for a long time, either acted or real(known as snuff movies), but when you make something like that more accessible to public, then it becomes popular.
So anyway, you have no argument for GoT.
