-Brief History-

The formation of the State of Israel was declared on May 14th 1948 after the last British troops left Israel. The next day, the Military forces Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon and Iraq, invaded Israel. This was the beginning of the Israeli War of Independence. After the War, which ended in January 1949, many were still to follow. Over the course of approximately 30 years, at least another 3 conflicts had Israel defending itself from a coalition of Arab nations. The most memorable ones were the Yom Kippur War and the Six Day War. Today, Israel still struggles against eliminating terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah. These organizations fire rockets from Syria and other terroist friendly nations. Vehicle bombings are also quite common in Israel. I must also mention that the Gaza Strip is also very popular safe haven for terrorists. Israel has come under international pressure many times for attacking the Gaza Strip. Another problem that compounds Israel is the inability to negotiate a lasting peace with their neighbors the Palestineans.
