An example to what im thinking of would be like:
Lv. 1
400% damage bonus with 9mm & Knife
80% resistance to acid
400% more explosive damage
+100% Developer no. 4 craft (If decap a scrake type enemy with the knife it causes all other scrake type enemies to take half that damage it took from the final swing... explosively)[Bravo if you get the reference in this]

Lv. 2
50% damage bonus with all assualt rifles
100% resistance to fire
25% increased clip size
250% increase to carry weight
Spawn with all vanilla assault rifles
"Deadshot" Shoot a dead body to get ammo back into your reserve

This is how I took the random stats thing. Hope I didnt butcher your idea too much.

Place pipes as much as you can, maps like Helmz where you can get in the spawns(or heavy choke points) and place pipes on them are ideal for this strategy, I would recommend placing these during the trader waves. For the first 6-7 waves I would recommend just using nades whenever you see a decent group of zeds build up and using your provided weaponry. For waves 8-13 I would recommend placing as many pipes in a single area for the main patriarch to run into on his appearing wave by grabbing ammo until you do get a pipe(Note this strategy requires a lot of ammo spawns in order to work). If this is not possible then just continue with the strategy I mentioned for the first 6-7 waves. Hope this helps!

Well, have fun on your long term haitus. Your perks should be fine unless something wipes the database completely. If you really are that worried about your perks take Screenshots of all your levels and that should be good enough evidence to restore them if said database problem does actually happen.
