black mesa or half-life? If it's I can't really help you since I don't own half-life, look up a tutorial on youtube if you're having trouble playing it.

Yes, it can be confusing in the beginning, but what you need is some sort program that can extract a compressed file or download like black mesa, the link to the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xVO_eRtKiU&feature=share&list=FL5f0ZNyrEY6eKZ8cNAzaAqA , the video uses a program called utorrent in order to open the compressed black mesa file. But make sure to get the torrent version download of black mesa in case you're going to use utorrent to extra black mesa. If you have any other questions or help, pm me and I'll do the best in my ability to help.

I'd probably recommend you download from the website, but it's half-way complete, all the developers need to finish now is Xen. And I have no idea when steam will release it, but I'm guessing they're waiting for Team Black Mesa to finish Xen, so the game is fully finished.
