My main critique at this point is that designing for multi-player is great but, for life-cycle concerns, I would have a strong single-player feature to compensate for low trafic times. It can be a seamless transition, but it needs to be there. I.e., the last thing you want is for users to not be able to play the game because no one else is available. This can be a problem early on if you do not have a lot of industry (or other) backing to promote your game, and it can be a problem late in your game life as people move on to other, newer games. In either case, you want to be able to retain fans, and that means enabling them to play, and enjoy playing.

I think your right about this. I'll need an AI anyways for the enemy ships so hopefully that can be used for the player AI as well.
