I'm not talking about the host of the server, but one player whos connection can make him dominate other players?

Duke Nukem 3D has a P2P netcode, meaning that all connections from each player in the server is combined into one "super" host. Of course since the player hosting the server has the lowest ping, he will play smoother but his syncronization time is very far off (Depending on internet speed of each player). If you have noticed when playing with European to American or vise versa, the game tends to lag a bit (Also depending on the internet speed of each player). Simply put, there is not really much of a host advantage. The fact that he is able to move slightly smoother doesn't make him any more of a threat. I have seen players play under the most intense lag, most times it's because they are causing it, but they are still able to play regardless. Hell, I went into a laggy match before and it took me a while to get used to the server. Once I did, I dominated that match. In terms, lag can't really cancel out skill.

Well, I was just wondering. Because Halo players say the same thing that you just said above. Maybe, it's on an individual level. I've had times especially with when we were playing SaturDuke, when guys from farther away just won't die when they should. Then again, I suck at every PC FPS ever. lol.

Well, sometimes it's not because you suck, it's because the player you're going against is causing the game to lag but he isn't getting as much of that disruption. Like, take Noldor Ranzou or SaturDuke. Those guys are over in Europe, but they can cause a good deal of lag and because they are good, the lag won't effect them as much as it will you (because they're causing it) making them very hard opponents. It's a shame what happened to this game. I hate this P2P shit. They should allow for dedicated servers, joining "In-game," TDM and CTF, and so much more. This game needs a modern netcode
