Veterans of the Dino Attack

The Dino Attack apocalypse of 2010 (in actuality, 2005-2012) lasted eight months (actually, seven and a half years), and those who fought in the war against mutant dinosaurs will never forget the experience. We have finally achieved our greatest victory, and the war is over at last. Now, the veterans of the Dino Attack have reunited here on Steam.

Is it that time again? Yes, it's that time again. Happy birthday, Dino Attack RPG! This is your last year of being a teenager!

Nineteen is (literally) an odd number, but for those of who who like clean even numbers, 2024 also marks the ten year anniversary of the Dino Attack RPG downloadable archives. A big thank-you to Drewsko who released his At War's End archive in this very Steam Group in 2014, kicking my butt into action as I then quickly answered with an archive of the original RPG. And thank Ole Kirk that this happened, because if we had waited just one more year, then we might have lost the Wayback Machine version of the RPG's lofiversion and that would have been devastating.

So... another year, another update to the Downloadable Archive and Director's Cut. As usual, you can check out the changelog on the Archive Wiki for a full breakdown of everything that's new or changed, but the two most substantial additions are L.E.G.O. (finally archived with the help of Kabrinsky!) and William's Bell Overture, the culmination of 19 years of unused ideas for Dino Attack RPG now framed as a bunch of one-off alternate universe scenarios!

Yes, the multiverse is canon. No, this isn't required reading. I promise. There won't be a test on this later on. I only want you to read William's Bell Overture because you enjoy reading what I enjoy writing. And if you've stuck with me for the better part of two decades, then I hope that's true!

Now, let's see what I have in store for the big Twentiversary next year...

Eighteeniversary

In 2012, Dino Attack RPG was as old as its youngest primary character, Cookieo. Today, Dino Attack RPG is finally old enough to officially sign up for Dino Attack Team after the rules were updated, without needing to lie about its legal age. That's right, it's now celebrating its 18th birthday!

As always, thank you all for sharing this journey with me. I had no idea back in July 1, 2005 that I'd still be talking about this RPG eighteen years later with a group of friends that have stuck around for the past decade.

So, how do we celebrate? By releasing new updated versions of the Downloadable Archive and Director's Cut, of course! Both archives have been updated with numerous missing details that I've documented while scouring the wiki and TV Tropes articles for anything that might've been forgotten. It's not anything big or significant (which is why it doesn't warrant a fancy new trailer for the Director's Cut v1.3), but every little bit counts.

But as for the Downloadable Archive, we're jumping straight from version 2.2 to version 3.0. Why the big leap? Because for the first time not counting the Director's Cut that did this already, you can read a complete archive of Dino Attack RPG and Dino Attack: At War's End in one place! No need to download two separate archives maintained by two different people anymore! On top of that, At War's End has been carefully proofread to fix any more post-update BZPower formatting issues that I could catch, and has been formatted for consistency with the rest of the archive.

But still, I must give my thanks to Andrewnuva199 for creating the original At War's End archive, which has served us well for the past nine years. Without it, I likely wouldn't have created the Downloadable Archive so soon afterward... and imagine if I had waited until after Wayback Machine lost the 2007 backup! Oh, that would've been catastrophic.
