So what are some of your favorite P&C games?
(This thread was deleted by Steam so I thought I would post it again)

Hi all, I thought now that we have over 10 members I would start an actual discussion thread. As you saw on the overview screen, the purpose of this group is to collect and discuss some of the top P&C games on Steam. So that being said, what are some of your personal favorites?

Well I haven't played many yet but Primordia is a really great P&C. I love the dark and dystopian look of it. Humor is a also a strong point.

Great title. Our member Mark Y. did the writing and design! Looking forward to what they come up with next:)

Hello! I recommend two old titles from the Adventure Company. One is "Evil under the sun", an adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel of the same title, so expect to solve a murder. The other is "Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure" and it is literally that. You break into a house to find it's full of puzzles. Not an easy game to beat and well worth the brain squeeze.

I enjoyed the ABC Murders by Artefacts Studios, they should make more Agatha Christie p&c's for sure. I've never heard of the Safecracker game before. It does look like it has p&c aspects to it, but it seems like primarily a puzzle game than anything else. The topic of "What's your definition of a P&C game" is a discussion I am looking forward to talking about with the members of this group. And thanks for joining Sunose, we look forward to hearing your input!

I've talked to Mark Y. before. He was thankfull for the review I gave to Primordia. In fact he thanked everyone who made a review for it, which I see rarely on here.
Hats off to him, he's an awesome guy!

My first touch with P&C games was Broken Sword. It got me immediately. During that time there was a monthly magazine called "Bestseller Games" which had an old game as full version included. I got a lot of LucasArts adventures in my hands because of that. Nowadays i like all the stuff from Wadjet Eye Games and Daedelic to name some.

Since that time, it must be around 1995/1996 I play P&C games, sometimes more sometimes less but its my all time favourite genre and half of my Steam library are such games.

If you like Agatha Christie, there are "Murder in the Orient Express" and "Then there were none". And of course "The ABC Murders". I'm always hoping that "somebody" does a detective game more hands on. You know, more point-&-click meets more simulation. With "Still Life" I thought it was it, but then it turned out differently, mainly, the second one. The same happened with "Chronicles of Mystery", "Secret Files", FBI Confidential a.s.o.,

I like mystery adventure games, with a mix of detective. It can have ghosts or other strange things. Maybe I'm stretching this a bit, but I did like the CSI games... you know experimenting. Maybe someday there will be one that will give us the chance to be a "real" forensic detective on the third/first person. I'm still waiting!

Believe it or not, my first game was an action game "Prince of Persia". I remember playing it in the office, during off hours, and being sorrounded with colleagues looking at me slashing everybody and jumping through teeth loaded trap doors. My second was Monkey Island, a couple of years later. The game was in floppy disks and had a locked access, unless you had THE game. It was a very funny and resourceful way to avoid piracy.

Broken Sword, was a marvel. I love it, I even have the 2.5 version that was "unofficially developed by some guys in Germany. Everybody was, (well, at least peoplewith similar tastes), by that time, looking for point-&-click adventure games, no shooting, no killing, no dying, no monsters, no war, no stress.... games. Simon the Sorcerer and Discworld are great games.

Black Mirror, is also a game I would put forward as well as its sequels. Sherlock Holmes. Among them "The Ripper" is the one I find closer to be a point-&-click game.

I had the 2.5 version as well, i waited for it a couple of years and was very happy when it was released. They even got the german voice of George to work for free.

Yes. Lol. Good times. I remember when I discovered it I was so happy. With english subtitles. The other languages came later.
Yes, good times. Not a lot of games like that available in those days, though. Not a lot of p&c adventure games at that time, neither.

Prince of Persia is a total classic! I too enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes games I hope they make more I really enjoyed the multiple ways to connect evidence to different suspects. I have never played any of the Broken Sword games but I know they are classics too so I gotta check them out at some point. I think a lot of European point & click adventures were hard to come by in the States. Its interesting I think P&C games have always had a huge following in Europe especially during the P&C dark ages when 3D action shooters became really popular. Maybe had something to do with computer hardware being more expensive to import to Europe so they stuck with P&C's due to them being less graphically intensive? Idk just a theory. If anyone enlighten me with their theories on why Europe has had a huge P&C following (besides the fact that P&C games are awesome;) ) I'd love to hear it!

@CrazyPyro69 Glad to participate! I think of "Safecracker" as an adventure P&C. You are right, it's hard to define games' genre sometimes, because not everyone has the same definition in mind. I'll check the other thread too.

@argos_austral Regarding detective games, so far I see that Sherlock Holmes P&C games are very popular. There are some very good detective games in the HOG genre too. We can never have enough mysteries!

The "Myst" is an old classic that I've never played and everyone seems to think highly of it. Has anyone here played it?

"The Longest Journey" by Funcom is another favourite. Loved the humor in the dialogues.

A more recent one I liked is "Dead secret", by Robot Invader. I would describe it as a mystery adventure turned horror. :steammocking:

CrazyPyro69 20 Apr, 2019 @ 8:01pm
@Sunrose Ahh yes...Myst. Myst was a phenomenon back in the day. I never played the whole thing thru. At the time the puzzle aspect of the whole thing wasn't my cup of tea. I might have to take another look at it someday as I never really gave it a chance. It had a huge impact on 90's PC gaming. It also spawned a parody game "Pyst" lol. The Longest Journey is one of my personal fav's. One of the first 3D cyberpunk/fantasy point & click games. Great story, great voice acting, and spawned some great sequels. Dreamfall Chapters is currently on my wishlist I hope to check it out soon!

I loved all the sherlock holmes until devil's daughter haven'r played that as they changed that so it was more 3d up till then you could have a choice of how to play those games.

love the Agatha Christie adventure games, I prefer mysteries. Broken sword games of course. Black mirror games and I know I must be one of the only people who actually liked what happened in BM1 (that's all I'll say any more is a spoiler) but gameplay was better in BM 2 & 3.

I forgot about the CSI games, yes those were really fun. Syberia series isn't mystery but more true grand adventure they were excellent. Cognition is a really good game as well.

@ Gingergal I got Devil's Daughter for free on an xbox games with gold special. It did change the character design to more match the modern Sherlock tv show but the game play is some of the best of the series. If your a fan of the others I'd say definitely check it out!
You guys are really making me regret never playing the broken sword games, they're going on my must try list for sure.

Any Erin Robinson fans here? (Spooks & Puzzle Bots)

My favorite adventure game might be Under That Rain, you actually can't obtain it anymore because the game sold so poorly they decided to pull it off steam.
