They don't say the servers will be rentable. Sounds to me like they are mincing words.

I agree with the above.

If you think rentable dedicated servers are a bonus, you aren't part of the PC culture IMO. You're part of the new breed of players who don't realize what it means to have them.

It's not just about connection/ping. It's about freedom of choice - choosing where you play, who you play with, what maps or game modes you play and finally, what connection is acceptable to you.

It's not a bonus to have those things. That's just simply part of our culture as PC players. We have more powerful/flexible systems we want to take advantage of and we want to deal with companies who want to help us do that.

Interesting example:

I just put together a new system with a GTX 770, i7, blah blah and a bunch of RAM.

When I play BF4 I can't put the graphics settings all the way up regardless of how killer my system is. Dice built the game knowing that we love to push the limits on graphics for PC and they made the game so we can grow into it.

COD:G is capped at 90FPS and it only utilizes 8GB of RAM right out of the box. Why you ask? I expect it's because 8GB is what the Xbox One comes with and I bet it can only handle 90FPS.

It's all about focus. COD companies don't care about PC. Dice does. Each focuses on what is important to them.

Not having dedicated rentable servers may work for games like League of Legends or Dota, but not FPS games. It's not a bonus. It's a requirement.

I find it hard to believe you can have your 'crouch' clan without anywhere to 'crouch' lol Without a dedicated server you can not truly play how you want.

Lame. Listen servers are a joke. It might as well be P2P. The player who hosts the listen server has the advantage in the game.

I don't think it's reforming anything. Some things aren't about 'the game'. If COD went with something like this I don't think it would make COD 'LIKE' BF4.

BF4 did something I suggested a long time ago. They have Official, Ranked and Unranked servers. If you set servers up for Official, you can't do much as an admin, but it places the server in the 'Quick Match' setup (sorta like the COD lobby system). If you set it to Ranked you can configure more, but there are some limitations and it's not in the 'lobby system'. Unranked gives you total freedom and there are no limitations, but you are not included in the 'lobby system' and you don't get stats.

This is a simple approach that COD can take and make everyone happy - and it's simple.

It's very poorly optimized if at all. I'm expecting they'll release a patch, but... of course sometime after a patch for Xbox lol or maybe not until Xbox One release.

BF4 is proving to be a lot of fun. It has it's bugs, but if you can look past that and expect they'll be resolved, the game is top notch.
