But I still get mightly distressed when I commit to a lenghthy conflict, only to discover I fought to replace a tital holder with someone who owes me no vassalage or that what seemed a clear rule of succession has left my canditant without claim, that I've loyally supported an ally war after war only to increase thier demense/power to the point where I begin look like a tempting addition to thier realm, ad infintum.....!!
I'm still enjoying the ride but it's a shame that so many actions seem hard to know the outcome of or how to trigger. Or that at times the interface is less than intuitive :( Learning this game (& as far as I can tell other paradox games) is a big commitment in time & mental energy but I'm still prepared to stumble on.
Thanks for reading my rant. Hopefully in 6months time I'll be reading another CK2 noobs post & smilling with confidence at the epic journey of learning & medieval drama that they are about to embark upon ;)
I am a new player to CK2 & grand strategy games generally. In fact I usually game on the XBOX 360/1, so everything from mouse/keyboard controlls to easy to access groups & forums is still new & novel. None the less I find the scope & premise of CK2 & HOI3 so appealing that I'm doing my best to learn them, CK2 first though!
I've had a gap in play time mostly because I find the interface & rule set so OVERWHELMING lol! Ive read/watched some tutorials but am still bewieldered in truth. I try to start with a small setup ie Duchie level with few vassals & enjoy the play through by setting limited short/medium term goals & thusly learn the mechanics & possibilities. I've learnt to try to improve economics early, avoid conflict without overwhelming forces, mantain a prudent financial reserve (mostly for emergency mercanaries!!), keep good relations with my court/vassals & marry with persons of inheritance 2nd/3rd in line (accidents happen!!)
