Last week, Carrie E. asked us: "How much time did you spend in NYC to make sure the city looked right? I live in NY and LOVE the little details."

Crytek's Tom Ebsworth responds below:

"If we rewind back to Crysis 2, we did a lot there for that which didn’t require us to go back for a second visit. In pre-production for Crysis 2 we had a team of artists, designers, and programmers travel to the city to do location scouting. Not only did this include walking the streets of various neighborhoods in Manhattan, but also aerial excursions in helicopters as well. We identified many key locations including Grand Central Station, The NY Public Library, and Rockefeller Center to use as reference points in the early block out. We incorporated a lot of the info gained here in the development of Crysis 3, but of course there was an interesting twist to be added.

With some power of imagination and what we understand about greenhouse type effects we wanted to piece together a populated world that had been ravaged by the effects of mother nature and alien energy. It proved to be one of the most challenging things we had ever done visually."
