Lar'zak looked on the tent with horror clawing it's way into his brain. Pony's corpses littered the grounds around the tent, and those who females who hadn't been killed suffered a fate worse than death.

Fan Fiction author The Red Blade doesn't pull any punches with his epic multi-part Diablo / My Little Pony crossover, using the suffering of Equestria's fun-loving four-legged friends to fuel the rage of his Barbarian character, Lar'zak. Friendship turns tragic in "Never Ending War of Equestria".

While that particular scene of demonic bestiality doesn't occur until chapter seven of this unfinished epic, it sets the tone (and establishes the writing level) of the piece, filed on FanFiction.net as "Rated: T - English - Humor - Barbarian".

The human heard a growl next to him and saw that the mare next to him was clenching her teeth so hard on the blade that her mouth was bleeding. After the initial shock, anger started to build up in his chest, and a bloodthirsty grin appeared on his face. The enraged barbarian looked up at the sky and howled, much like a wild animal, making the demons look up at his direction.

The Red Blade is a master of comedy.

The action begins in what I assume is the world of Diablo, where Lar'zak has just finished killing a demon and has set up camp for the night. As he eats, a mysterious stranger arrives.

"I have no need for water, but I need for you to disappear." the hooded figure said in a raspy voice. The cloaked figure then pointed to Lar'zak and he felt a strong wind start to blow around him. He tried to grab his swords, but his arms were glued to his sides. A bright yellow light enveloped him and he felt himself being flung away from this cloaked character, he tried to open his mouth to yell at it, but no sound escaped. Everything was going by so fast he felt like he would be sick, he was able to turn his head just enough to see behind him, and saw a bright purple portal opening behind him. He kept his eyes glued on the portal until things started to go black.

As he blacked out he saw this odd looking horse looking down at him.

The horse is actually a zebra, known to fans of My Little Pony as Zecora, a witch that reportedly, on occasion, does evil dances. She only speaks in rhymes, like "Why did you do that? There's no need to be a nut". The Red Blade is also the master of rhyming.

We're slowly introduced to more characters in this little morality play. There's Twilight Sparkle, the magical unicorn; Spike the dragon who seems to be channeling Wolverine ("Need to watch where you're going bub"), and someone named Krazeir, who seems to have been sucked into this world from ours via a video game.

'Obla di Obla da, life goes on!' Krazeir thought, humming the tune he had heard from his old world. That song had been stuck in his head for almost a week now, and if it didn't stop soon he thought he'd go insane.

And he's a fan of The Beatles. Oh, and he's been transformed into a Pegasus. I think he's supposed to represent the everyman. Everypony. Something.

Soon the barbarian meets Twilight Sparkle and her dragon companion, two best friends that have never known anything but innocent and pure G-rated goodness. During their awkward meeting, a manticore attacks. Lar'zak punches it in the face.

The manticore stumbled from the heavy blow, but regained it's balance and stabbed at him with it's tail. The human saw the attack coming so he just sidestepped it and brought his sword down onto the stinger, cutting it off, sending an electric shock up through the beast's body. Lar'zak wasted no time, bringing his sword up swiftly right into the creature's skull.

While a traumatized Twilight Sparkle seeks the advice of Princess Celestia, the Barbarian is left to slaughter hordes of undead ponies and demons. When the Princess investigates, he saves her life.

Two of gaming's best and most beloved video game studios are no longer squabbling about the word DoTA. The makers of World of Warcraft and the creators of Half-Life jointly announced in a blast to the press today that they have reached "a mutual agreement regarding concerns over names of upcoming products."

Peace in our time!

The agreement: Valve will still be making a game called DOTA 2 and use the DOTA term commercially (translation: on things you can buy). Blizzard will keep using the term non-commercially for Warcraft III and StarCraft II maps.

Blizzard is changing the name of its planned Blizzard DOTA custom game in StarCraft II, which will now be called Blizzard All-Stars. That name, Blizzard's Rob Pardo said, "better reflects the design of our game."

This resolves what was becoming an ugly trademark dispute between two fan-favorite game studios.

The DoTA term, short for "Defense of the Ancients", was a fan-made mod that was made in 2003 for Blizzard's Warcraft III. It involved a specific multiplayer game-type that involved players protecting opposing waves of minions. DoTA games have been surging in popularity thank to games such as League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Valve entered the fray in 2010, raising eyebrows with their intent to team up with a top DoTA developer to make a game they'd call DoTA 2. They began pursuing a trademark of the DoTA term. Blizzard objected and recently tried to block the trademark, a few months after announcing that it was making its own official Blizzard DoTA game featuring characters from the companies popular series like World of Warcraft and Diablo.

It was getting awkward. Valve was issuing complaints like this to the U.S. government's trademark office: "Valve seeks to appropriate the more than seven years of goodwill that Blizzard has developed in the mark DOTA and in its Warcraft III computer game and take for itself a name that has come to signify the product of years of time and energy expended by Blizzard and by fans of Warcraft III."

Now it seems resolved between these too heavyweights.

Blizzard's Pardo: "Both Blizzard and Valve recognize that, at the end of the day, players just want to be able to play the games they're looking forward to, so we're happy to come to an agreement that helps both of us stay focused on that."

Valve's Gabe Newell: "We're pleased that we could come to an agreement with Blizzard without drawing things out in a way that would benefit no one. We both want to focus on the things our fans care about, creating and shipping great games for our communities."

League of Legends creators' at Riot Games have previously said that they'd object to Valve trademarking DoTA. Kotaku has reached out to Riot to clarify where they stand on this matter and will update when we hear back.

A GameStop source has told Kotaku that, given the relative failure of the company's push into online PC sales via its purchase of Impulse, it's now trying something a little more practical. Namely, selling Steam vouchers in its bricks-and-mortar stores.

After all, if you can't beat 'em, skim a little of their money off the top instead.

The vouchers will apparently go on sale on May 15, and are reportedly a "kind of a sensitive issue" between GameStop and Valve owing to the fact it's an awkward way for either party to be making money.

Never mind that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days was first released nearly two years ago (or that it was a bit of a turd), one lawyer in China sure is pissed.

According to Global Times (via TechInAsia), Beijing attorney Liu Lin is suing Kane & Lynch's developer, Denmark-based IO Interactive, and its publisher, Square Enix. The reason? "I can't bear it, especially the vicious vilifying of our people," said Liu, a lawyer from Beijing Shuangli Law Firm. "They must be taught a lesson."
Liu is seeking 10,000 yuan (US$1,585) in damages. On Tuesday, he filed the suite at the Daxing District People's Court of Beijing. The court, however, has not decided whether it will hear the case.

As the Global Times pointed out, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is set in Shanghai, and it doesn't exactly depict the city—or the Chinese people—in the best light. It doesn't depict video games in the best light either, for that matter.

"As a Chinese lawyer, I have the obligation to protect the rights of all Chinese," Liu told the Global Times. The lawyer doesn't seem too concerned about winning, adding, "My worry is not whether I can win the case but whether the court will put it on record." Noted!

Still, never mind that legal experts are already dismissing this suit. Never mind that the lawyer doesn't care if he loses. Just...never mind.
