EA’s Origin is among the youngest of distribution platforms we have on the PC, and there’s been a few less than positive opinions about their support at times. The latest, however, seems like it could be the worst of them yet. Some users of Origin have been reporting troubles logging in, and it seems the hackers are gaining access by changing the victim’s email address by way of Origin’s live chat support feature.

According to a thread over at gamin clan, GSN Gaming, more than one user has experienced the issue — with one claiming that he had, as result, lost his Origin account altogether. Apparently the exploit is achieved by attaining a user’s email address, as well as date of birth, which can often be found on various game community forums and such. Once this information is found, the hacker uses Origin’s live support feature and requests a change of email address.

GSN forum user, Anointed_Soldier, states:

“[Origin Support] said that my account was still in good standing and couldnt figured out what was going on with it, …they couldnt find my original email that I created my account with anywhere.. and because of that, they wouldnt give me access to my account to change things around for security reasons even after I gave them my name and DOB. They said I HAD to verify the new email address, but duh…I couldnt give them something that I didnt have… they said they had to forward my issue to tier 3 email support…It was like talking to a brick wall with them about this whole ordeal. I was not happy with them or with what was going on with my account. I was notified by email yesterday from EA email support requesting me to create a new account…and im like….are u kidding me??? They said it would be safer to create a new account with a different ID and unique password that would make it difficult for others to obtain, and they are still working on resolving the issue with my original account.. then they add….” We appologize for any inconvience this may have caused”.

He also adds:

“EA did mention that I am not the only one this has happened to here recently, so you might want to consider changing your password, and hope this doesnt happen to you… because this has not been a fun experience at all!!”

Further down in the thread, others admit to having had, or heard about, others who’ve experienced similar issues. We have reached out to EA for an official comment on the matter.
