Specialization refers to the type of units our clan allows you to provide elite upgrades for. Tokens required for these upgrades. Spear is for the Vanilla Shogun 2 Avatar. Imperial is for the Fall of the Samurai Avatar.

Why spear?
(1) Spear units include Yari and Naginata units from Ashigaru to Monks.
(2) The exclusive "Hold Firm" ability grants 4 units in a small area unbreakable morale and increased defense and attack for a short time. Generally considered to be the best high-tier ability available.
(3) Some spear units are allowed the "Banzai" ability like Monks or Nuns.
(4) Most clans are Sword specialized anyways.

Why Imperial?
(1) Black Bears are the most cost effective line infantry for ranged combat - 150 range anybody?
(2) Tosa Riflemen are arguably the best long range skirmishers
(3) Carbine Cavalry elite upgrades available
(4) Red Bears. White Bears. Bears!
