Hosting a Dedicated Public Server

Hosting a Private Match
Introduction
A private match is a great way to play private games with friends without the hastle of setting up a dedicated server.
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1109325081
Instructions
There are two methods to do this, one using the in-game friends list and the other using the console to connect directly.

Method 1 (Friends List):
*Requires you to have each other added as friends on Steam and to have steam running.
1) Start iw4x and select 'CREATE GAME' from the main menu and click 'START GAME'
2) Tell your friends to press the F key on the main menu to bring up the in-game friends list
3) Tell them to double click your name to join your game (If they hear a chicken noise, see "Failed to join")

Method 2 (Connect Command):
1) Go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and PM anyone who wants to join your IP Address
2) Start iw4x and select 'CREATE GAME' from the main menu
3) Click 'START GAME'
4) Tell anyone who wants to join, open the console by using the tilde key while at the main menu
5) Get them to enter the following command, replacing 'HostsIPAddress' with the IP you previously sent him:
/connect HostsIPAddress:28960

Failed to join
If you followed the above correctly and your friends are unable to join them you the host of the private match will need to port forward in order for them to connect to you.
Port Forward port 28960 UDP & TCP
You can find how to do this by Googling 'YourRouterName Port Forwarding'
Note: If port forwarding is too complex, just stick to playing public servers, or maybe join an empty server so you have the same experience as a private game.

Customizing MW2 (Camos, music, images)
IW4x allows you to customize your game to your own personal liking, this can be anything from changing the main menu music to replacing camo textures and much much more. You do this by telling the game to load your new custom assets (gsc scripts, images, sounds, menu files,..) instead of the base game ones by using the userraw folder. I will now explain the basics to enable you to do so:

Iw4x Assets Location
The game assets are contained in archives called .iwd files, these are zip files and can be opened by programs such as WinRar. The location of these files are in the "Main folder" and "iw4x" folder both located in the root MW2 folder. Example: iw_00.iwd, iw_01.iwd, ..., iw_23.iwd and so on. If you open any of these with a program such as WinRar or similar program you will see the games assets and folder structure they follow. The game pulls all the assets contained in each of these archives into one large pool of assets on launch. Imagine they extract all the iwd files content into one virtual folder and that's where the game pulls all it's assets from.

userraw Folder
The userraw folder is used to override any asset contained within the main .iwd files, on launching the game, the game will use assets found in userraw over what is in the main iwd file. So any textures/sounds/scripts/... you place in userraw will be used over the ones found in main. The importance of this is that it avoids you editing the basegames .iwd files, any edits to these would work fine but as soon as an update comes out or you repair your game the updater.exe will delete any changes and restore it to it's original state. So userraw is the cleaner solution.

Assets can either be placed as loose files/folders (replicating the folder structure inside of the iwd file they came from) in userraw or can be packed into .iwd files like how they are in the main folder. The choice is yours however it may be more clean to .iwd files but may be easier for beginners to use loose files.

LooseFile Example: http://imgur.com/a/uo8lA
IWD File Example: http://imgur.com/a/LOlIi

Using the userraw Folder
Simply place the assets you wish overwrite the base game with, ensuring you replicated the folder structure in the iwd file. As an example I will explain the process of replacing the main menu music.

1)Locating the asset you wish to replace.
This can be a trial and error process, as the assets are split across multiple .iwd files
In this case the main menu music file: "hz_t_oilrig_themestealth_v1.mp3"
Is located in "iw_20.iwd" under "sound\music\hz_t_oilrig_themestealth_v1.mp3"

2)Now we know the file location we simply replicate the folder structure in userraw
Recreate the folders:
"userraw\sound\music\hz_t_oilrig_themestealth_v1.mp3"
You can replace the mp3 file with another just ensure the folder structure and name remains the same as the original.

Loading up the game now will result in your custom mp3 file in userraw playing instead of the normal main menu music.

Downloading assets from online
The same rules apply as above but this time you only need to place the downloaded files and extract them into userraw or if they come in an .iwd file simply place the .iwd inside of userraw
"userraw\z_DownloadedFile.iwd"

Troubleshooting Guide
Below is a compiled list of solutions and fixes to problems users may encounter.

1) Black screen issue
If you've been experiencing black screens on starting up IW4x, try one or more of the following methods:
Method 1:
If you have a Nvidia GPU, disable the overlay (see picture).
Disable any other overlays as well (Discord, FPS Counters, Recorders, Steam, etc.)
Method 2:
Rightclick iw4x.exe, click Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and enable compatibility mode for Windows 8.
Method 3:
Revert your Nvidia GPU driver to 417.35:
https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx
Method 4:
If you can launch the game, make sure that in Options -> Videos, Direct3D 9Ex is set to YES.
Method 5:
Disable DEP, run this batch file as admin:
dep_disabler.bat https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/275267435945263104/544154785943650334/dep_disabler.bat

2) Seeing 0 Servers in the ServerBrowser
1) Start the game and open the console with the tilde key
2) Enter the following command:
/addnode waliant.pw

3) Low amount of Servers in the ServerBrowser
This can be caused by either your router not handling the serverlist or you may be running an outdated version of iw4x. To confirm you are running the latest version of iw4x please join the discord. (As of writing this v0.6.0)
1) Open the console in the mw2 menu and enter the following: net_serverFrames 10
2) You should now see all servers, if not continue to lower the value for net_serverFrames

If all of the above fails to help you your only option currently is to use a pre-made favourites list file that has most of the servers added but not all:
1) Download the following file and place it in players folder inside your mw2 folder.
2) When in game change the source to favourites, you should now see many servers
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/219514629703860235/341601107815956480/favourites.json

4) Lag spikes in game
This is caused by the serverlist issue, even in game the list refreshes and if you don't see all the servers this will cause your ping to spike as your router is struggerling to handle the number of connections. See above "Low amount of Servers in the ServerBrowser" to fix this issue.

5) Direct x issues / d3dx9_40.dll missing error / Graphical glitches
1) Download the following Direct-x Setup file:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/219514629703860235/340662499412017153/dxwebsetup.exe
2) Open it and follow the installer, untick bing homepage if it asks (no-one wants that)

6) Single Player / Spec Ops error fix
Download the following: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/219514629703860235/334719881788391424/iw4sp.zip
Extract to your MW2 folder (Slight bug with changing resolution, to fix edit config.cfg and change the value of seta r_mode to your resolution)

7) Spec Ops (Requires SP fix ^)
Works with both people with the single player fix and steam players. To join someone alt tab out of the game and with the games external console type: connect TheHostsIP:28961

8) XUID doesn't match the certificate error
If you get the "XUID doesn't match the certificate error", there's usually 2 known reasons for this.

-First reason being is that there is another instance of IW4x running.
Therefore, you must run Task Manager with administrator privileges and kill the IW4x processes.
-The other known reason is simply that the private key doesn't match the public key.
Therefore, you delete guid.dat located in the players folder, and start IW4x again.

9) Updater.exe skewed CLOCK TIME Error
This occurs when the updater fails to connect to tor and outputs how many hours and minutes it is out of sync. Tor requires a precise time to work and this error will occur when your computers time and date is not precisely correct.
1) Open the start menu and type 'time and date' click on the top result (Control panel one)
2) Go to the third tab "internet time" and click "change time settings"
3) Click "Update now" - Now your time should be synced
4) Re-open updater.exe and you should no longer get the time error

10) Low FPS on gaming laptops (Force GPU usage)
Follow this guide to learn how to force iw4x.exe to use your nvidia/amd gpu instead of CPU.
HowToGeek Guide - Forcing Nvidia/Amd GPU[www.howtogeek.com]

11) Windows 7 fatal error Fix Guide
Follow each one of the fixes below and then try out your game to see if the fatal errors have been fixed:

Potencial fix 1:
*Run as Admin Fix
1) Go to your MW2 folder
2) Right click iw4x.exe and select Run as admin

Potencial fix 2:
*Fatal error potential fix DEP

2) Now cmd is running as administrator type in the following command:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

Potencial fix 3:
*Re-install GPU Drivers
1) Go to start menu & search "Device Manager" (or go to run, & run "devmgmt.msc")
2) Click the + next to "Display Adapters"
3) Locate your GPU driver and double click on it
4) Click the uninstall button
5) Restart computer
6) Re-install your specific GPU driver
