Dont starve seemed to sell more off its art style then anything else, but I never gave it much of a chance, considering how many survival/rogue-light games are on steam.

Payday2 not something I would even contemplate playing.

Like shouldn't he get a bomb first, few npcs, then go into the crimson/corruption?

Its not as far as "optimizing" in terria you want to get chests(and orb breaking) asap some of them have items that will constantly be useful (magic mirror) and pretty 75% of the weapons/tools will outperform everthing up to or past crimson/corruption and/or are important crafting items.

Also You want to farm eye of cthulu for money (selling demonite bar/crimsonite) and "skip" as much of the basic metalic armor (depends on how good you are at combat) as you can for crimson/shadow/jungle armor with crimson being massively useful due to the regen into early hard mode.

Gravity potions for skye houses, spelunking potion, and gills (or an item/being careful) for the ocean are good items to get and areas to shoot for early.You also want to check for special things like pyramids etc in your world as they will have powerful unique items.

TLDR; find/craft a decent weapon and a level of armor your comptent with(and/or gather potions) and hit harder areas asap instead of wasting time minning lots of copper/silver/gold if your trying to advance quickly.
