Your thoughts on gun control?
The way you've written your OP seems like you're trying to push some agenda that gun control creates gun crime/is ineffective, which is quite different to trying to say to establish gun control in a country that already has an issue with gun crime / mass amounts of guns isn't going to be very helpful. I don't think it's fair to be making blanket statements like since it varies quite a bit on the country and their histories. Ireland for example, had 61 homicides in 2015 (Source: CSO), with a population of around 4.6 million. 6 of those were with firearms (An Garda Síochána Statistic). If you compare this to the USA, the USA has about homicide rate 5 times higher, and a gun homicide rate almost 30 times higher. Ireland has quite a strict gun control policy, proper background checks are in place, you must give valid reasoning for your ownership if the firearms, you must store the firearms and their ammunition correctly and have your medical records examined, to name a few. Only things like non automatic rifles and shotguns are allowed, handguns are generally not allowed to be licensed.

What's the difference then? After the Wars of Independence and Civil War which occured from a period of 1919-1923 there was effort made to establish the Army and the Garda Síochána. (In English, "Guardians of the peace", i.e the Police) Firearm control was brought in to deal with the large amount of weapons held by people as a result of those conflicts.(Many weapons had been imported from Germany). I guess this early adaptation of the firearm control has been a big factor which helped bring down the amount of firearms and people owning them, never was there the idea of the right to own firearms. People seem to be quick to point towards places like Latin America when gun homicides are absurdly high despite some of them having high gun control, but it seems like a scapegoat to push an agenda in your own country. I can't comment much about other countries and why gun control may be good or bad for them since I haven't read about it much, but for my own country I'm certain in saying that it works well here in Ireland, but that is by no means going to say that it would work well automatically everywhere else, and you shouldn't simplify this issue like that.
