I think if you want to watch it for story/presentation alone it can be troublesome for trying to connect very disparate arcs in the manga in a short timeframe, but on the plus side (compared to the black knight focused 1997 adaptation) the competent enemies are less restricted to just Zod/Griffith/Boscone. I do enjoy its ambition, but I dunno... I can kind of forgive the 1997's break from the manga since in it's place it has it's own version of development and the human condition where the guts of ep 25 and 1, is once again twisted with revenge. Plus it uses the eclipse event as a volta which is pretty powerful, and only possible because of refusing to show us the events that would have foreshadowed it and ultimately creating an ambuiguity not in the manga. 2016 on the other hand suffers because it invites comparison to the source material more directly... can't really think of it introducing its own themes to such an extent.

If you don't like the beginning you won't like it post "improvement" either.

The 2016 anime's first episode confused me, but i went immediately to the manga, exactly at the 97' anime's ending and moved forward.
Im currently at chapter 164 in the manga and its still a long road to finishing it, but hell its perfect!

I'll probably just watch some fighting scenes of berserk 2016 on youtube and thats it, i'll stick to the manga until i finish it.

I watched the old Berserk anime recently, cool story, not bad animation for a 1997 anime, epic fucked up ending.
After that i decided to continue the story with Berserk 2016, and boy! was that a good one?
