Standard vs Metric

It doesn't matter if it has a varied amount of increments if nobody uses them in everyday measurement. I have never ever seen anything measured in decimeters, only meters or centimeters. If the units are never used commonly, that's not very useful at all.

People don't use decimeters because most stuff isnt decimeters long. It's meters or kilometers. And there's stuff that's larger than a kilometer, and smaller than a millimeter.

I'm assuming you mean imperial, not metric. Who needs consistency when you've memorized the conversions? Any time I have a need to do conversions I'm at school and have a calculator.

To this day, I can never remember how many yards are in a mile because of just how arbitrary it is.

It's like, what, 1760? Why? What reason is there?

Again, I never need to do exact conversions in daily life.

The only thing metric has going for it is the fact it's accepted as the scientific standard, which means I'm forced to learn it for physics. But if you haven't grown up with metric, no matter how convienent the conversions are the imperial system will always make more sense. Both systems are arbitrary, metric is just aligned with the base 10 system.

YOU don't, but people like me have to do it on a regular basis. 10 is infinitely less arbitrary that 12/3/1760
12/5280. No one except football players uses yards. Miles are measured in feet.
