Controversial Beliefs and Opinions?

obsessed with being the best in games
I know that feel.

It probably stems from the way society is shaped, so that there is no obvious outlet for any desire for self-improvement. There are no more obvious careers that you can sink all of your will to power into, and end up a millionaire. Or mentally stable women women, who want a reliable husband to start a family with.

In order to be fun, in the long term, video games need to be player vs player - for example, see how quickly MVM phased out. In order to not get stale a game needs to be fairly well balanced, so they're designed to be as even as possible. Then once the developers start making "balance updates"; it becomes a serious discussion of making things "fair". Having players actively talking about what makes a game fair inevitably leads to them trying to develop the most advanced meta possible, and how to really push the game to the max. To clarify, people have always tried to do the most optimal things in games, but not to the extent we see today.
The people who are best inclined to do what is prescribed by the developed meta game end up becoming celebrities within that community.

So imagine yourself a young man, around 16-23 years old, and you have no outlet for bettering yourself. Schools have been turned into daycare centers, so you'd have to get a masters degree to make it worth your while. Families have been all but abolished, thanks to the hyper-materialism, and rampant degeneracy our society is so fond of. Careers have turned into getting a part time job - if you're lucky. Then you go to play a video game, a common means of escapism, and then you see all these people getting praised for doing so well. You're caught up in this and want to join them. You can't make yourself or your family proud, but you can be respected by some people in a game you like.

Now you spend hours scouring forums for tips, writing sticky notes, reading 100 page guides, and watching some replays/streams of top players. You test out different strategies, ways to get to the objective faster, how to do the most mathematically efficient thing possible. You do all of this and cram your mind with days worth of studying game mechanism, everything you could get your hands on; and then you jump online, to play a game, and then - you lose.

You spent so much time studying to get better at the game, and got so motivated to be a great player, that the game effectively became another work. Reading the scribblings of some asian guy who won a tournament 5 years ago isn't fun. The game stopped being a healthy escapism; and instead, because of the inability to accomplish anything in the real world, you put effort into that game like you would raising a family or proving to your boss that you deserve a promotion. All of that gone to waste, because of the simple fact that in a fair and balanced game - one team always loses.
See, this is why I said you weren't a shitposter.

I agree with... Pretty much all of it actually. I feel like esports created this mentality of "if I'm the best then everyone will like me", rather than a mentality of "I'm just gonna sit down and unwind" that video games always brought me.
