I think it's less about how popular you are, and more of how well you'd do in a vote. For example; in surveys you have to be well known amidst many people, but in a vote it's purely a judgement on your character. Fork_Q for example isn't the first to come to mind when thinking of a new moderator (such as Brig and Shadowcon), but he'd win a yes/no vote in a landslide.

Your character is more important than your popularity. If you think you'd be a good moderator, then you certainly believe that you have a good enough personality to win a vote; otherwise I have no idea why you'd be going after the position, or even posting here.

Well, if I did become moderator I'd have to scrap my current posting-style.

And people are used to my supposed shitposting anyways so I doubt they'd think a shitposter would make a decent mod.
