Why do people play Thief, Planescape Torement, Deus Ex, or Dishonored?

If Prusak's post was anything to go by, it's not a combat heavy game and you're given choices to accomplish missions in a number of ways.

You can fight quite well in Torment, Deus Ex, and Dishonored. Thief was it's own genre.

You didn't fight well in Torment compared to the other Infinity Engine RPGs. In Deus Ex a single bullet to the head will kill you, most of the weapons in Dishonored are geared towards stealth. Want a FPS with great combat, play Painkiller or Doom.

It's broken, cheaters everywhere. It's P2W. Crazy fucking queue times for races and shit.

If you don't mind all that, and starting out as a noob and getting constantly sniped miles away from those who put 1000s of hours into it, sure it's not "that bad".

The city was gray and dull.
It ran like shit.
Too many boring driving missions in shit cars.

I was able to look past all but the first two.

For a game that involves an lot of driving and shooting, it has really stiff driving and shooting. The hacking gimmick wasn't even good, glorified optional QTE or just a dumb puzzle to get through the bad plot.
