*Yes they are, sure you still need to care for them and give them food, but they do just fine on their own too.
*Because it's true. With dogs, you have to take them on a walk at least once a day. Do cats require you to do that? No, they can go out on their own if they want.
*I've never seen one do that.

The first point applies to dogs too, they don't "need" you beyond being fed, watered and given its own space. As for walking, I don't know anyone who walks their dog three hours every day. And not all breeds require much exercise (pugs, bulldogs, spaniels and various other lapdogs).

Reasons cats are better:

*They are more independent, as long as you make sure to give them food, water and clean their toilet, they'll do fine. Of course a little bit of cuddling will always help.
*They don't require you to take them on a 3 hour walk every day
*They eat mice, which if you live on the countryside like me is a HUGE help.
