Still, "innovation" implies some sort of progress, which doesn't really apply to Superhot and Darkest Dungeon.

Innovation means new and novel, it does not have to mean influential or landmark.

AFAIK, there really isn't a time-travelling mechanic similar to the one in Superhot. It's innovative even if no one else will copy it. I agree with you on Darkest Dungeon. The sanity/stress mechanic is clearly inspired by tabletop RPGs like Call of Cthulhu, maybe not the most innovative, but certainly one of the few videogames to make sanity such a central mechanic.

I don't think Superhot or Darkest Dungeon belong on this list. Yes, they're neat indie games. No, they're not /innovating/ anything that's going to shape the future of gaming.
