Why did MatPat give the Pope Undertale?
I know this happened a month and a half ago, but I just saw it again and can't get over it.

Just imagine, you're the leader of the Catholic church, this guy who basically develops the plot for a nightcrawler ripoff wih Chucky Cheese that mentally-challenged kids clammer over comes up to you, pulls a crimpled piece of paper with random numbers and letters on it, and tells you it's a fucking video game.

To quote a leddit post, it's a bit long, so here's a tl'dr:

tl:dr It's a shitty choice because Pope isn't into gaming culture, doesn't have a PC, and there were so many better options to choose from (Tetris for example that this guy listed)

Full post of what the guy said:"I'll be like really brief because I'm hungry and want to get something to eat and I know nobody will read my comment but OP anyways. It's going to be a bit of a ramble.

Firstly, on the practicality of things, Pope Francis couldn't even play that copy of Undertale for multiple reasons such as the fact that it's a Steam key and hence might be complicated to activate along with some stuff involving a working computer. Matpat could have bought the DRM-free copy of Undertale from GoG, which can then be transferred onto a thumb drive, if he really wanted to give Undertale.

Secondly, Undertale is pretty much rubbish for someone who doesn't have any experience with previous video games. It relies heavily on meta-tropes. I don't have to elaborate.

I don't want to debunk Mat's own reasoning for why he chose Undertale, such as why it's flawed, because that involves watching the video again.

So, not only is Undertale a poor choice but it was also delivered in the poorest way possible. Mat could have literally just given a thumb-drive that's really easy to understand than a Steam key to someone that isn't familiar oh my god that still pisses me off how did nothing in Game Theory realise this.

MatPat could have used this opportunity to ask the community, at the very least, his community what game he should have given considering he sees himself as an 'ambassador' of 'gaming culture'.

I personally believe that Tetris on a Gameboy Color would have been the perfect choice for both the symbolic and practical reason. Not only could it be played immediately by the Pope would qualifying as a small gift, but it also represents how gaming unites people of completely different parts of the world and culture, in a way that can transcend language unlike all any other forms of media. It was developed in the USSR yet managed to gain popularity internationally, despite the Cold War, showing how gaming can work in both communism and capitalism. It was also a missed opportunity for MatPat to do a Cold War video on his channel, which are popular with children, a chance for actual, real educational value which he claims to have so much pride in.

It's like if all of humanity was given a genie who can only grant one wish and some guy decided to get a hot dog or something and completely waste the chance."

And what boils my blood the most is how he pushes this "I represent gamers" shit. If by gamers, you mean the 12-15 year olds that eat up your shitty theories, then yeah, you're fucking spot on.
