Donald Trump just made a direct call with the Taiwanese president, agreed to ahead of time, on the subject of Trump hotel properties in Taiwan.

The thing is, the U.S. has never, ever made a direct call to Taiwan in years. This is because such an action implies that Taiwan is an independent state. And as we know, China doesn't think Taiwan is independent. And it doesn't really take it well when people try to encourage Taiwan to be independent.

Additionally, the president Trump called is a major supporter for Taiwanese independence. China has already lodged complaints against Obama for this action, and their news media is already calling this political trickery.


Of course, Donald Trump could be motivated by establishing US power over China, and doing a morally righteous thing by encouraging Taiwan to stand up for its own sovereignty from a country that wants to take it back by "any means necessary". However, foreign policy experts say that this action will make relations with China very unpredictable in the future.
