The Daily Announcement of Today
The idea of daily announcement was inspired by certain FRC memers. Thank you

Hello all group members!

Welcome to another daily announcement! I took a long vacation and now I am back. Without further ado, let’s get on with the news.

Munich shooting: Gunman 'planned attack for year'

Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36878436

The teenage gunman who killed nine people in Munich on Friday had been planning his attack for a year, German authorities say.

David Ali Sonboly, 18, who had a Glock pistol and more than 300 bullets, killed himself after the attack.

Bavarian government officials said he appeared to have bought the illegal pistol used in the attack on the so called "dark net".

Vigils continue in the city to commemorate the victims.

Seven of the dead were teenagers - two Turks, two Germans, a Hungarian, a Greek and a Kosovan.

A further 35 people were injured, but only four of them have bullet wounds.

The state government officials told a news conference that the victims of the attack had not been specifically targeted and were not classmates of the gunman

Robert Heimberger, head of Bavaria's criminal police, said Sonboly had paid a visit last year to the town of Winnenden - the scene of a previous school shooting in 2009 - and took photographs. Sonboly was a keen player of "first-person shooter" video games, he said.

He said it was likely the Glock pistol Sonboly used - which had been reactivated - was bought on the "dark net" market, an area accessible only with the use of special software. (Read news item below)

Comic-Con 2016: Brie Larson is Captain Marvel and other big news from Marvel

Source: http://www.vox.com/2016/7/23/12264434/brie-larson-captain-marvel

Saturday was an absolutely massive day for San Diego Comic-Con. New trailers for Wonder Woman and Justice League dropped. The first look at Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was also revealed.

But it wouldn't be Comic-Con without some big news from Marvel.

The biggest news of the day was the announcement of the newest member of the Marvel superhero family: Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios surprised the audience, and had Larson come out to join her fellow Marvel colleagues just before the traditional group photo:

Larson's casting is huge in that Captain Marvel will be the first female hero in Marvel's current stable of superheroes to get a solo movie.
Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers has become one of the company's flagship characters and has a vocal and large following of fans called the Carol Corps.

Though Danvers has been around and part of the Avengers for quite some time, writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Dexter Soy's 2012 run is considered the game-changing moment in the character's life. The two gave Danvers a new uniform, leaned into her pilot background, and gave her the title Captain Marvel (she had previously been referred to as Ms. Marvel). The movie, still in its nascent stages, is thought to be inspired by this run.

Captain Marvel is scheduled for release in 2019.

Can Pokémon break the video-game movie curse?

Pokémon is about to try to lure fans back indoors.

Legendary Entertainment will launch the first live-action Pokémon franchise with a Detective Pikachu movie, Variety reports. The film will be fast-tracked so production begins in 2017.

Producers might want to set the bar higher than “best live-action video-game adaptation ever,” judging by the way every previous example of joystick cinema turned out.

Previous video game movie ratings on Rotten tomatoes:

Super Mario Bros. (1993) 15%
Street Fighter (1994) 12%
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) 19%
Doom (2005) 19%
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) 36%
Warcraft (2016) 29%

This day in History: 1911
Machu Picchu discovered

On July 24, 1911, American archeologist Hiram Bingham gets his first look at Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca settlement in Peru that is now one of the world’s top tourist destinations.

Tucked away in the rocky countryside northwest of Cuzco, Machu Picchu is believed to have been a summer retreat for Inca leaders, whose civilization was virtually wiped out by Spanish invaders in the 16th century. For hundreds of years afterwards, its existence was a secret known only to the peasants living in the region. That all changed in the summer of 1911, when Bingham arrived with a small team of explorers to search for the famous “lost” cities of the Incas.

Traveling on foot and by mule, Bingham and his team made their way from Cuzco into the Urubamba Valley, where a local farmer told them of some ruins located at the top of a nearby mountain. The farmer called the mountain Machu Picchu, which meant “Old Peak” in the native Quechua language. The next day–July 24–after a tough climb to the mountain’s ridge in cold and drizzly weather, Bingham met a small group of peasants who showed him the rest of the way. Led by an 11-year-old boy, Bingham got his first glimpse of the intricate network of stone terraces marking the entrance to Machu Picchu.

The excited Bingham spread the word about his discovery in a best-selling book, sending hordes of eager tourists flocking to Peru to follow in his footsteps up the Inca trail. The site itself stretches an impressive five miles, with over 3,000 stone steps linking its many different levels. Today, more than 300,000 people tramp through Machu Picchu every year, braving crowds and landslides to see the sun set over the towering stone monuments of the “Sacred City” and marvel at the mysterious splendor of one of the world’s most famous man-made wonders.
