How do I convince my dad to put a Linux distro on my school laptop?
So, for some reason, my school's doing thing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD, as it's usually called) for our Google Chrome school accounts. We already have Chromebooks, but instead of buying more, we have to buy ♥♥♥♥.

So, my dad gets me a ThinkPad, newer model and has good stats (he's adding in more RAM too) and I was thinking of putting Debian on it. I'm probably not going to game on it, so I thought having a secure OS like that would help

My dad though, he doesn't want me putting any Linux distro on there. He says that I shouldn't be playing with my school laptop. I usually trust him with computer stuff because he's been using them since the 70's and has been taking eletric things apart since he was three, but I don't think our eyes really meet on this issue.

School's starting in two weeks, is there anyway for me to convince him that I can put Debian on there?

He is probably thinking there will be applications that the school uses that are Windows only. if you're sure there aren't going to be, try and put together a list of all the reasons why a Linux machine is better the a Windows one for your purposes

Thanks.

I'm sure I can get Microsoft Word fonts on LibreOffice if I try. And I can get Chrome on Debian too, even if I fucking hate it.

You have the gun, what're they gonna do?

Jokes aside, does your dad know that you can use Linux at school? Maybe he thinks Linux is going to screw up your computer so you can't use it?
