What games really need one though? I only play Bunny Must Die and touhou with controllers but that's a preference thing.

It is always nice to have one on hand. Some games are just more comfortable with a controller.

As mentioned already, racers. I would say most platformers are just better with controllers too. Keyboard inputs are digital, they either recieve a command, or they don't. The stick on a controller can give greater control (like making a character jump and land only 75% of their full jump distance, or make gentle turns in a car).

Oh yeah I just remembered the sensitivity issue with some games. Had some issues playing on emulators with a ps3 controller for those reasons.

Yeah, platformers are typically a lot smoother with a controller. Especially 2D ones. Games with simple controls also benifet from a controller. Like gameboy emulators.
