Can I get a decent PC build with less than $500?
Title.

500 is too low. A decent one would cost about 1000 dollars. Though keep in mind that i'm no expert.

I guess it's quite tricky to find one. Perhaps I would try to increase my budget a little bit.

I know a guy who can find you the parts of a computer for that price.

What about a gaming pc? You could build one for a pretty cheap price.

I got a HP pavillion laptop with i5. Costs around 900+ SGD. 500 would probably get you a Pentium processor. Good luck with that

500 bucks is, ehhhhh, barely enough for a full new desktop with essential peripherals. You can get something decent *for a laptop* at that price, but it won't be a gaming machine in the slightest - laptop GPUs just either don't cut it, or are expensive.
