My general rules of thumb are:
Saying something so stupid that no one would actually genuinely believe you mean it. (Unfortunately yours fell into the Poe's law pit where it was just believably stupid enough that instead of believing you were joking, there was a good chance you were serious.)
Saying something without any of your general typing traits (for instance, if you were to drop grammar and capitalization.)
