Plus, in the event you COULD fire a gun in space, Newton's Law dictates that you will be sent flying in the opposite direction, as the same velocity. No air or ground to plant yourself in.

Vacuum-functional/underwater-fucnctional firearms are a thing. They're impractcal as shit to make and prone to failure but they do exist.
That, and Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space. You shoot, it sends you spinning backwards, you need propulsion to stop that spin and that projectile isn't gonna stop anytime soon either, you're ruining someone's day, be it right there and then or three hundred years later.
