Koo.
I don't think I get the point of the thread...
Pretty obvious, Acitvision, EA, and Ubisoft being the worst, milking their franchises and treat developers like shit regardless of how passionate they are for gaming.
Competitive gaming/e-Sports:
Boring, uninteresting to anyone aside of MLG pro wannabes, and in the end, promotes gaming communities to be nothing more than grown men and angry teenagers screaming at each other and rather have their game shut down than lose some elo or somthing.
With growing demand for skill-based games and increasing skill ceilings, unless you're as popular as CS:GO or your game is a F2P MOBA, multiplayer games is dead on arrival.
Basically, while games like DOOM 2016 will last forever thanks to single player, if the game only had multiplayer, it's good as dead.
Where the fuck is bot support in games these days?:
Imagine 20 years from now you want to go back and play some game you love, but the servers shut down/player population is low as hell. In a nutshell, the game is worthless aside of a single player campaign that is probably shit.
For example, Battlefield: Bad Company (1), servers are mostly dead, and when there is one, there's only like 4 people, not high player battles, just small player battles in large fields where almost nothing happens. Outside of videos, said games are unplayable and will be a thing of the past instead of being a timeless game.
Quake 3, I still play that game 50 years from now (If I live that long anyways) as long as there's a working copy (Or Steam is still a thing) and jump in a bot game if there's no human players left, and still be able to play a game.
Call of Duty 4 and World at War doesn't have official bot support, but the community made bot support, which is good since most multiplayer mods are dead and only TDM is played with Nuketown custom maps every game matches.
What the fuck happened to modding?:
As you can tell, modding has disappeared for most games since DLC became a popular thing. Basically, some games will not have a community keeping the game alive unlike the classic Doom games and even Call of Duty: World at War, where people continue to make custom levels and zombies maps for the games.
Sure, some games have level editors built in, but games like DOOM 2016 could of had modding tools instead, as they missed huge potential for having SnapMap as their primary replay source for single player.
That, and well, DLC sucks.
DLC and Microtransactions:
DLC doesn't offer a whole lot compared to expansion packs a decade ago. Battlefield 1942 actually had expansions, not "DLC disguised as expansions." Expansion packs used to be around 50% of a main game or hell, even a full game in their own rights, like Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. Now, with overpriced DLC and Microtransactions here, we're paying more for less, instead of paying more for something that could offer a new experience or at the very least, something worth the price.
Online Gaming communities gone to shit:
Kind of obvious, but since any angry person can get their hands on a gaming system (PC, console, handhelds), you can guess what would go from here.
I could go on, but this is already enough of a wall of text post.
Warner Bros is one of the worst video game publishers i've ever been affected by in my whole life. They constantly show that they give no fucks about PC gamers and have more often than tolerated released their games in broken, unplayable states on PC while console gamers get mostly problem-free games. Arkham Knight is a prime example, and they also gladly abandon their PC gaming fans regardless of the consequences.
Mortal Kombat X's PC port is one, we PC gamers got screwed over and will not release Kombat Pack 2 or improved netcode for us. Only the console gamers will recieve. All because WB are such pussies and refuse to fix shit they're responsible for.
MOBAs are also shit and boring games (just my opinion).
To elaborate, while a majority of RTS games holds a concept that many may find as alike, or even the same, it should be acknowledged there seems to be many variations of such genre that offers a different experience & way of playing. From tactics, to strategy, and from "real-time", to "turn-based". In a way, this serves to not only represent said games differently, but as stated earlier, it disproves that they're the "same" concept. At least, by a small degree.
In addition, while some may hold criticism of the game play of games of the aforementioned genre, I view that, in spite of such criticism, there are many things that are offered that represents the game that doesn't make one view it as boring. Either part of the game play, or the experience, & more. Such as Starcraft, for example. It's 3 races are known for requiring use of different strategies, as well as thinking differently, to succeed & strive in a play through. Though, this is merely a short statement that doesn't truly describe the game itself fully, nor similar games.
But beyond that, however, this is merely my outlook in regards to your comment. I apologize that my comment doesn't focus much towards the topic at hand, but nevertheless, I simply want to voice my outlook on the matter. Please understand that I'm not defending said genre, as I simply wanted to voice my thoughts.
Still, not every genre is people's cup of tea, much like how RTS and MOBA aren't my cup of tea.
Not to mention, the term "same concepts" can be applied to any gaming genre really, the execution is what makes some games stand more than others if you ask me.
RTS and MOBA aren't my cup o' tea either.
RTS and MOBA competitives are more intense to watch, trying to outplay a professional player in MOBAs are quite entertaining to watch, FPS Comps are the matter of small game sense and aiming.
