What are your thoughts about the European Union?
Is it the light of the world? Is it cancer? What do you like/dislike about it?

Like:
- Post-war peace in EU
- Trade and market benefits
- Single currency to avoid costs
- Freedom of movement
- One voice to muscle through trade negotiations
- One voice to muscle through other international agreements
- Human and social rights
- Massive funding of science
- Massive funding of poorer EU countries
- Shining beacon in climate change mitigation
- Potentially, military

Dislikes:
- True benefits only occur through federalisation
- Federalisation means transfer of money from north to south
- Public relations and public perception
- Accepting poorer, corrupt countries into single currency
- Ambiguity in all levels of politics
- Waking up to the Balkan crisis too late
- Waking up to the Syrian refugee crisis too late
- Waking up to the threat from Russia too late

Is it an FRC rule to have at least 1 political discussion every week?

Sorry.

It's kinda my thing.

It's what I do.

it's a cancer
after brexit, hope we see frexit next.
we're highly likely to have either France or Italy go, based on occurrences there.
france might not because they're the ones who came out with it.
italy might not because they're perhaps economically dependent.

Eh, alright then.

I don't really have an opinion on the EU. But I will say that Brexit was a complete waste of time...

Too complex of a situation for my simple mind to understand. I've got two friends in England, one who wanted Brexit and one who didn't, and both of them seemed to have pretty valid reasons.
Pretty on the fence.

Like most global "alliances", it does suck. But it usually sucks even more to leave the alliance.

Of course, change is always painful. Would the pain suffered by the dissolution of the EU bring about lasting benefits in the end? Not really sure.

Speaking of Brexit, why would anyone in their right mind want to follow suit considering the mess they are in now?

I had forgotten about Brexit, thanks for reminding me.

By the way, personally, I supported Brexit because Britain's job in the EU was to make a pig's breakfast of the whole thing at every level, and they got a disproportionate amount of the science funding, which will now come to my department. Woohoo!

It has/had its own uses, but it's slowly drifting into over-regulation.

I still like it and i appreciate them, but they really need to work on their immigration help tactics. Having just a few countries take the whole load isn't working.
It's better than the League of Nations[en.wikipedia.org]

Yeah. I know.

With Britain out of the way slightly, maybe we can get that bill to be passed.
