Then it'd be a real war.
Yes. It doesn't work because the issues they try to solve are always more complicated than we make them out to be.
We fucked up our economy by putting spending towards pointless shit like militarizing the police force (which is plain stupid - you don't use the military to police your own civilians, that's why the police exist) and pointless drug raids that did jack shit. We put weapons in Mexico to stop the cartels, but instead ended up being stolen and sold back into the U.S., contributing to mass shootings. We increased police power and the power of bureaus like the Drug and Alcohol Bureau to the point where they're overstepping constitutional bounds. We fucked over the civil rights of every race as a side effect. Then, we do fuck all for people who are addicts or have addiction, because for some reason an addiction to drugs isn't considered a medical problem like an addiction to cigarettes.
Just an enormous step backwards for the country.
Besides, there's not much reason not to legalize certain drugs anymore. Alcohol and smoking are just as dangerous and addictive, yet they are completely legal. It'd also make peopel who ARE addicted to them not afraid to seek help.
