Now suppose you're a zombie and some humans are attacking you. The item to your left (same as the human's right) is your only weapon. What is it? (and re-read the older posts from the zombie perspective)

Get a good reliable ISP that will get you the speed you want. Then the speed is your computer, the technological(not always geographic) distance to the server, and if the server is stable.
Of course a big part of that is distance. If you really want to, move yourself or the server. One of those choices is easier, but its up to you.
Steam games can be large so having a slow download speed would be a problem when you begin to install them. But for gaming only loading levels and the initial connection might lag. Otherwise I play just as poorly as everyone else and its usually never an issue(depends on the game).
