The private steam profile does make it hard to guess what kind of games you're into.

In honor of the end of the world, on the 21st Valve should turn off steam for a whole day so people would experience something they haven't in quite a while... natural sunlight.

These three off the top of my mind:
Left 4 Dead 2
Doom3
The Binding of Isaac

I wonder if Nintendo will step in buy them.

The only real way to see before you click on it is to begin quoting in a reply post or to right-click and copy url, launch notepad and paste.

Atlantica can teach them a lot about earth geography and semi-mangled history(and about economics if you're into that thing)

A game made me care enough to remember some real-world cities I normally wouldn't even know or care if they existed (regardless of those places being populated with mythical beasts).

Also sometimes you are suprised with a type-in-the-blank testing if you were reading the conversation or blindly clicking to rush through the quests. The questions and answers are the same if you create another character and start over.

I can see this being adapted for coursework.

I think he's wondering why can't you download it (in its incomplete form) on steam already. Why track it down on that other site if its been greenlit and its playable?
Perhaps it is Valve waiting until the game is finished (all that walking about in Xen)
It sure would be nice to show my achievements (currently not stored in the Steam cloud)

One other cool benefit to just downloading the game is the BGSOUND folder, full of wonderful ogg music files.
