SteamGuard?

This makes sure that the user account on a specific computer is legit. Steam sends a code to the registered email and you have to type it in immediately into steam to validate yourself. No need to remember the code, its a one time thing for each new computer/user combination.

After 15 days of it being enabled Steam will allow you to trade. There are other things to consider but if you just purchased something then you're probably good to go... after 15 days.

put that in the launch options, start the game, exit the game, remove from launch options.
(If you don't remove it all your graphics settings will reset each time you start the game.)

Then start the game and configure as you like.

If your computer is plugged directly into your internet line then port forwarding does not apply to you.
Got a router between them then find the manufacturer and model number and dig through the port forward website ( http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm ).
After you pick the manufacturer (first page), and model number (second page), then pick the game/program you're having trouble with.
Do record your settings before you adjust them. Inexperience could lock you out of your internet. Fortunately you can hard-reset your router (small hole in the back) in case something goes wrong...

Check the Library and inventory of your friend and see if its sitting there.

He's been doing that and getting banned for it all day and yesterday.
