Try this:
Shut down steam (to stop the current download right were it is)
put the CD in
Re-run the installer from the CD (if there even is one)
Hopefully it will install what it can from the disk but in order to play it you need to continue online to get all the patches synchronized. After that you can put steam into offline mode. You have to be currently connected and online in order to get into offline mode (and then disconnect your internet).

Sad to say, but game companies just assume everyone has high-speed internet. They probably wrote the installer on the CD with that assumption and have it prefer to download if it even smells an internet connection. I don't know as I don't have this game, nor the CD.

When you buy a boxed steam game from a store you're really paying for the box, the CD(which you can immediately destory as explained below), installation manual (that says install steam, etc), a proper manual for the game itself(if you're lucky) and that CD key.

You can throw away everything except the CD key as you can enter it on steam(free download, free account). Afterwards, you can toss that too. Preferrably in a recycle bin.

Do keep your receipts though, just in case something happens. Also once you actually enter the CD key there is absolutely no refunding or returning the game so choose wisely.

I've seen some real suprises in the steam sales but I don't rant about it.
But since you brought it up just remember we're laughing AT you not WITH you, but only when you rant.
The concept of Towns is interesting, but I didn't pick it as I need more information. Even the store page says its development is still ongoing. Thats the part that bothered me. I shall revisit it when its "done".

There is also the video posting achievement. Whats your opinion of YouTube?
If you have a gmail account then you have not so secretly been given a youtube page to play around on.
You have a bunch of games, but no TF2. Worth checking out(and its free-to-play). I also mention this because you can record a replay from in the game and then post it to your linked YouTube account in a few easy steps. You don't even have to edit the video if you don't want to, the achievement doesn't care.

And even I... who abhors social media of all forms... created a real and mostly blank facebook account just for the badge. So far it hasn't been useful for anything other than that. I never really trusted facebook, and when the Z man's own page went unexpectedly public I knew I would never put any personal info on there. Its basically a toy for the kiddies as long as they don't reveal their entire life and secrets on it in which case it potentially becomes a perfect nightmare.

Seems reasonable at least from a steam payment to nexon way. I wouldn't imagine you would get steam wallet money from any nexon items.
Also these two systems probably never heard of eachother. Not sure if Nexon feels like adding steamworks to their code just to talk to Valve's computers, but hey, would be nice to get steam achievements for Atlantica. I would just have no idea what those would be.

You seem to be talking about the initial download experience. Nobody likes in your face advertising. All download sites seem to have this though.

I think however he is referring to all those actually downloaded installers that when you start them up don't just install the product, but all that other crap (toolbars, etc).

A third thing I hate is the installer downloader installer. A micro-program that downloads the real installer you were actually looking for. Adobe's FlashPlayer and Acrobat Reader installers are prime examples. Oh, and they delete themselves as they start up, and remove the actual installer from your temp folder when it finishes(you can grab it if you're skillfull enough). Any failure at all and you have to trudge back to their site and try again (or run the copy of the installer).
