If you meet the MINIMUM hardware requirements(at the bottom of the TF2 store page) then your computer is simply misconfigured. Get a local nerd to help sort out your startup programs and services. If you don't have adequate hardware then you're out of luck.
And if you're seeing pink triangles and checkerboards everywhere then your video card doesn't have enough video memory to load all the 2D textures. If you have a desktop simply upgrade your video card. If its a laptop you may have to get a complete replacement as the video chipsets aren't replaceable/upgradeable. DO try upgrading your video card drivers before you decide to throw anything out.

This sounds like you accidently turned on the NVIDIA apps logo. Look in your Windows control panel for NVIDIA Settings.
Look in the menu bar for "3D Settings>Show PhysX Visual Indicator" and uncheckmark it.

I've taken 9 month vacations from steam... to play Antantica(which is now on steam as a free-to-play).
Its all about priorities.

Join a few games, enter the chatrooms of some steam groups (read their rules first). Perhaps introduce yourself by putting more info on your steam profile page. There are a lot of new steam users every day so at least consider that when you see them give them a hand getting familiar with steam.
I usually don't add people that I haven't seen and talked with for under a month. I like to know who or at least what I'm adding.
As for help with individual games there is usually an official steam group for each one. You can tell because it has an extra-wide steam logo, otherwise its just a random fan group. If by chance there are people chatting feel free to join the conversation. Its a great way to get to know people and have them know you well enough to become steam friends.

And as for figuring out the right forum you have indeed chosen correctly. The Steam Discussion would be my second choice except its mainly discussing the steam program itself.(or maybe i read that wrong, nobody reads the stickied topics these days)

Anyway, enjoy steam and have fun. Friends just seem to accumulate as a side effect.

Try slogging through the onslaught of system spec info you get from the Help menu item "System Information"

Just look specifically for the items that are mentioned on Planetside 2's store page. Try to exceed the Recommended rather than the Minimum specs if you can.

Perhaps start with there being a 5th chaos orb, and maybe the bad guy has it already. I trust you will keep BMage's sarcasm and evilness intact.
