I started out by teaching myself out to program on a TI-83+ graphing calculator, made some text adventure games.

Tick tac toe on the graph screen using an endless loop to detect which number key was pressed or edit using getKey->thekey and if statements is fun enough. If you can make it a network game between two TI-83's then you've got something. (Use the CBL commands...?)

Your source link is msn, so I already distrust any 'news' that might be in there, but I'll look at it anyway. In the middle of said article the main pull quote seems to be some definitional quibble over the use of 'some' vs 'many'. The stuff that brings migraines to non-lawyers.

Having around 20 to 30 troops instead of 115 shows restraint and a proportional response I guess... but this doesn't seem to be a sticking point, just that it wasn't ever 115 in Portland. Given that this doesn't seem to show any heavy handedness by the administration(they could have sent much more than 115) I don't see what the deal is.

Also there's so many stays and counterstays with different due dates I can't really follow if there is a current stay and when it ends. If there's no current stay order the guards could go in right now. This article is a little muddy on whats currently in effect.

1. Learn procedural programming at the terminal. Read/write data files, print different patterns on your screen.
2. Learn object oriented programming so that you can more accurately model the universe and all objects in it, including behaviors and responding to other objects(monsters, etc)
3. Learn your OS's event driven system so you can respond to mouse-clicks and system timers rather than having to check them(spinning your tires) until you find that a key has been pressed, etc.
4. Get someone to provide you sound files and music.
5. Maybe some network code.
6. Professional graphics artist to make your game look good enough to impress the kiddos who only buy shiny games. Do this without breaking any of the previous 5.

Use any programming language you want.

speaking of, if he is going to try and play the trumpet then he should play the beginning of Apartments

There are probably noise ordinance rules you can point out an punish him with, but if he waits till noon its probably 'ok'. Otherwise he can buy a $10 trumpet mute(looks like an ice cream bowl) so that any disturbance should be reduced. Still, he shouldn't do it when people are expecting to be sleeping.
