You would be suprised. Sometimes that progress bar moves backwards as it recalculates how much has been downloaded. I'd start a download (TF2 for example) says 4 hours. After 3 hours it tells me only 6 hours to go, then eventually drops to 1 hour. It does actually finish, so just watch the amount downloaded counter. Hopefully your download doesn't pause itself.

Turn your monitor on its side so that your progress bar gets a gravity assist.

Have you considered Portal2? I'm pretty sure cross-console was a mentioned feature.

Well a couple months ago Atlantica migrated its way onto steam... Its free-to-play MMORPG and its quite addictive. Don't forget to eat and sleep between quests.
By the way I do tend to agree that Half-Life 2's story is among the best. Play Half-Life 1 to get some of the jokes. BlackMesa Source is out too (A re-write upgrade/new direction of Half-Life 1).

Perhaps you ran into a server admin who is a religious zealot... (your screen name).
Are you able to play on other servers?
Some games let the admin write a message for why you were kicked. On other servers even if there is room there might be player slot reservation. A paying member(of their group) will always get in, kicking you (the public) off.

If you already know what your getting then it can't be a surprise. Kind of spoils the whole holiday.

Your point is valid except that steam needs to be up to get any achievements. I'm sure the gameplay wouldn't be affected once you actually got the game started... if they ever make that game.
I do play a lot of multiplayer so I do notice some of the downtimes throughout the day.

I would rather they fix all the wacky and serious bugs in the steam client than have them focus on Half-Life2: Episode 3. Because it may be a perfect game, but if steam keeps dying I won't be able to enjoy it in its entirety, in one sitting... (probably friday night through early monday morning). Interruptions would be quite unwanted.

Perhaps if you have your proof of your first on-steam purchase you could convince Valve to adjust your "official" and apparently incorrect start date. (like anyone keeps receipts for games after 3 years, actually I do).
My introduction to steam though was a conversion from the CD-ROM based version of Half-Life(Sierra Studios flavored) so the moment I was on steam I had a full account (paid games already tied to it).
Given the situation you have described I don't see why you don't have a bigger badge. But you have to convince Valve to adjust it for you. Nothing us regular users can do about it.
