Received a VAC Ban in Rust Without Ever Playing the Game — Need Clarification

Hello everyone,

I recently received a VAC ban in Rust, but I have never installed or played Rust on my computer. What’s even more confusing is that several Rust DLCs and cosmetic items were purchased on my Steam account without my knowledge:

Rust Instrument Pack – $5.79

Rust Voice Props Pack – $7.29

Rust Soundtrack – $5.79

Rust Sunburn Pack – $5.79

Rust Angelic Halo – $1.99

Rust Jungle Pack – $12.99

I managed to refund most of these purchases (around $24 refunded), but I still don’t understand how I got a VAC ban for a game I never even launched.

The real problem is that I play CS2, and now my profile permanently shows a VAC ban warning, which seriously damages my reputation as a fair and legitimate player.

I’ve already contacted both Facepunch Support and Steam Support.

Facepunch said that the ban is permanent, even if the account was hijacked.

Steam Support has not yet provided any specific evidence or explanation regarding what caused the VAC detection.

I’m posting here to seek clarification, advice, or confirmation from the community or moderators.
Is there any way to have this case reviewed again, or to remove the VAC tag from my profile if it was clearly a result of unauthorized activity?

Any constructive suggestions or experiences from others who faced a similar issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hijacked. Malware or phishing.

Follow steps 1-6 to secure your account:

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a trusted/clean device.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

... And they're right you are ALWAYS responsible what happens on your account no matter what. It's literally in tos which you agreed to when you created the account.

I’m not even sure if someone actually accessed my account — I only suspected it at first.
However, if my account had truly been hijacked, I would expect my inventory items to be stolen as well. Instead, a few random and unnecessary Rust items were purchased, which makes me think this might have been a system or transaction error, not an external attacker.

Also, I have no sign of any login attempts from other devices or locations. Because of that, I strongly believe this could be a false detection or system mistake that somehow triggered the VAC ban.

It just doesn’t make any sense — someone supposedly gets into my account, buys random useless items, and then somehow uses cheats? That’s completely illogical.

Unfortunately, I was never told what exactly caused the VAC detection, so I can’t even verify what I’m being accused of.

Steam does not just auto buy stuff off the Store. If actions like that are happening on your account and it's not you.... YOUR account is 100% compromised.

I would follow the steps provided above... before it's too late and you find yourself with a cs2 ban.... assuming it's not already too late as cs2 bans are delayed.

Steam support can't help with games that are not VALVe's games, for that, the own third-party support is responsible to help you. Contacting Steam support about your Rust ban doesn't get you actual support. Even if, they wouldn't be able to remove any bans anyway.

If Facepunch says no, so it is, it's their game after all.

The good thing is tho, that your account only has 5 games on it and it wouldn't be too expensive to start anew on a fresh account.

Just forget this one and move on with life.
