Why does Steam not accept my payment?

I have the money in my Steam wallet but when I try to buy the games it says an unexpected error has occurred and the payment does not go through. I am wondering if Steam itself is having a problem. What do I do?

Read (and maybe quote) the FULL error message. Does it tell you to try again later and/or contact Steam support?

Do you have an active payment setup? Bank debit card or credit card, or paypal as your active on file payment ?? some game purchases will not go via steam wallet payments.

also for UK residents, if it is a restricted age game, you must have a CREDIT CARD on File...

Which games can not be purchase from funds from your Steam wallet? If this is true, it is the first time I have heard of it.

Are you trying to buy game as a gift or are you trying to buy game for your account?

Some games purchases, still require a non wallet funding source, before purchase via steam wallet. and off the top of my mind, I do not remember what games required this.
