It doesn't apply to the UK Online Safety Act.
May I ask why this subset is of such import?
You know, Valve doesn't need to provide any options. Just ask the Germans.
Furthermore the only reason why Valve is using credits cards is because they already handle credit cards. And to comply with the law all the need to do is confirm a valid CC is attached to the account. Extremely simple from an implementation standpoint.
So you assume Valve is a laundry list of negative things. The reality is they're not keen on age verification and implementing unique systems for every country. They have that right. If you don't like it, go shop at another store that jumps through the hoops the way you approve of. You have options, like it or not. And if you don't, then your anger at Valve is misplaced.
I don't think you're gonna get anywhere crying discrimination, so I'm not trying to discourage you because of a silly belief that you'll ruin it for everyone else. I'm just saying it's a waste of time, and you're not likely to get exactly what you want relating to the new laws and it's not really Valve's responsibility to shield you from your laws. Valve is not responsible for your laws.
From where does your expertise spring? And you're claiming to know better than all the lawyers involved? A bold move.
Valve is not responsible for addressing every exception and annoyance you have. They're only obligated to follow the law. The law causes you problem because it's unfair and stupid? Well that sucks, and we're all sorry. And it might be nice if Valve did everything they could to conceal the costs and inconvenience from you. But inventing that responsibility for Valve doesn't actually make it theirs.
You know words have more than one meaning depending on context. Maybe you'd prefer a synonym so the context is clearer to you, "Loudly claiming discrimination". So you're not doing that? Which part aren't you doing it? Are timidly claiming discrimination? Apathetically claiming discrimination? You are claiming discrimination at least right? But in a perfectly neutral robotic tone as has been exampled by all your other neutral and emotionless arguments.
Well, I understand some of the details your blinded-by-anger-arguments don't seem to be aware of. So yeah, it's all good bro. I don't feel bad for understanding the situation.
Lots of people being affected by a law designed to affect everyone in the UK isn't some shocker. Laying the responsibility at Valve's feet might not be reasonable though.
Other people also having issues stemming from a burdensome law isn't Valve's problem to solve. Also you're absolutely wrong. Valve is a privately owned business and they can operate how they like, and doing nothing is a valid choice, even if it's not the one you would make. Valve can also live with the consequences of doing nothing, if there are any.
Your only realistic option as of right now is use a different store that meets your requirements for age verification. Valve doesn't have to, and they're not the only game in town.
You should be prepared for that loophole to be patched. It's not a secret and it's bound to raise issues on whether Steam is compliant with the law.
