How should I go about promoting my Steam Group?
Hello fellow gamers, quick presentation:
I'm a long-time Japanese learner, completed 81 games in Japanese, and just recently decided to create a Steam Group & Curator page.

My issue is - where do I go from here?

I am not a streamer or youtuber (and too shy to be one), I'm not some big games review outlet like IGN or PCGamer, I'm not a blogger and basically have no internet presence wathsoever... I'm just a guy that play many games in Japanese and can tell fellow learners "you should check this one out next".

I've already visited all the major Japanese study sub-reddits and asked Moderators permission to share this initiative there, and it got some attention, but is not like I can keep spamming it now.

Then I thought "Ok, if I personally invite players from the Community HUBs of titles that expressely make their goal to teach you Japanese, then they're bound to be interested !"

And I was right - out of 11 people I've presented the Group to, 10 joined and 1 declined, because he suspected it might be a scam, and I can't blame him for being careful on Steam.

This was working great, over 90.9% success rate, and actually made a lot of friends!

So I continued, just to find out Steam has a limit of 30 Friend Request per week... :(

But I know there is people out there that is looking for this, just as I needed it very long time ago, so it's frustrating I'm not allowed to reach out to them... although I do understand the neccessity for it to be like this.

Of course I can take this very slow, 30 Friend Request a week - but there is nothing else I could do to grow it a little faster? ^_^'

If you have some ideas, I'm hoping you could share them with me ^_^

Here's what I'd do.

Hop on over to the SteamGifts forum - https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/puzzles-events

Buy some bundle games, then make some giveaways, and hide entry to the giveaways behind some kind of Japanese language based puzzle, use the puzzle thread and giveaway description to promote your group and if people find it fun and interesting they'll join.

You'll also probably end up with a higher calibre of member than just inviting random people

I've took two additional steps:

1) On the Points Shops I've bought the Info Box profile showcase, and in it I've added the Group description in the front of my profile, so everyone who checks my profile will see it.

2) I've wrote a very extensive guide on how to go about "Study Japanese for playing games in that language, starting from zero", and posted it on my Group - the hope is that people will find it useful, share it with fellow learners and find the Group that way.

That's an interesting idea ...unfortunately I'm tight on budget... ^_^'

And I'm only doing it to help fellow learners that share my goal, I'm literally getting nothing in return, I'm not sponsored nor have any affiliations - so paying money (I barely have) for the chance to help them would feel a bit... xD

An interesting idea regardless, I'll keep this on the back of my mind, you never know... :)

11 days have passed and the Group growth has been stalling since 4 days, or more :(

Let me say whoever here on the HUB mentioned one could add 30 persons to the Friendlist per week, that information is now outdated and wrong.

It's much less than that, I haven't counted precisely, but I don't think I was even allowed to add more than 40 users in this 11 days...

Does anyone have more recent information of how this works now?

The friend invite limit is "up to" 30 per week, depending on the rate you send invites.
