Recovering old stolen account
As the name implies, I was wondering if there's any help I could get from the community (or any moderators/staff that see this) about recovering an old stolen account of mine, JackFromHoV.

Why am I going here instead of doing the whole emailing thing?

Simple: I cannot provide proof of ownership.

Well why can't I? The account was made when I was younger, and as such, any purchases made were made by my dad with HIS card or with any Visa Gift Cards I would receive from birthdays or christmas. My dad never kept those receipts, and he's not gonna just sit there and go ways back on his bank app to look for the purchases, and he def ain't gonna let me.

What DO I have? Well, I have the original email address as well as some remaining emails (including the email where the account got hacked cause its all in RUSSIAN) about promotions and such. Since I was just a kid, I never kept the emailed receipts cause y'know, ya never think about getting hacked.

Why such a big deal getting this account back? I'll never use it again most likely, main thing I wanna get back into is my old Destiny 2 account as well as to see what other stuff I had on there. But these are memories for me, and I just...I want the account back.

It's been 4 years since the account got hacked, so damn sure its probably a lost cause. But who knows? Maybe someone here can be an angel lol.

Account Recovery
Make sure you are completely logged out of Steam before you start the recovery process

When doing an account recovery, do not try to rush thru the process. Trying to rush thru normally results in information being missed and time wasted. Take your time and read everything.

Here is a guide that another Steam user was kind enough to make. It will help you navigate your way thru the recovery process if you are having any problems.

you have to work with steam support to recover the account. if they ask for something you cannot provide, ask if there is something else you can provide as proof. since your dad has some of the information that is required as proof, you will need to talk to him.

If you can't provide the proof Valve wants you're not getting it back.

Why did you wait 4 years to recover it? Was there something you did that you wanted to keep secret? Also is your account lost or stolen?

A mix of failed attempts in the past (cause like I said, can't provide proof of ownership cause I was a kid and purchases were made via my dad and HIS card) and the fact that I have this current account.

Stolen. As i've mentioned it was hacked.

Hijacked because you were careless with your account information.

This is a user forum. We can't do anything except point you in the right direction (which is the account recovery via Steam Support).

You can not recover your account without proof of ownership.

Sorta lol. Was the kind of careless kid who wanted free currency and tried downloading generators lol. My own downfall but, one I have learned from.

I'm aware. Asked here for a reason. Reason being if anyone was ever in a similar position and could provide tips.

Any type of proof you can provide is vital, it's hard esp when you created the account young. Even if it's to provide a card which your dad may NOT have. You can simply contact the respective bank, ask them the old card digits, exp and cvc which you then can provide to steam support team.

All the best

That seems more like "definitely" than "sort of".

Careless with not knowing how viruses worked rather than careless with account info. I was an idiot as a kid don't judge me lol.

Does look like it all turned out ok though. Even without receipts Steam Support helped me get access back!
